Meet Elissa Bloom – the woman behind Pop of Nouveau wallpaper collection!
Interview by Anna-Kai Tors

I first met Elissa Bloom at New York Design Week 2024, where we instantly clicked over a shared love for bold patterns and storytelling through design. What started as a conversation over cocktails quickly turned into the spark of an idea – her own wallpaper collection. Less than a year later, that idea has come to life, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
In this interview, Elissa takes us behind the scenes of her creative process, the inspirations behind her designs, and what it feels like to see her vision come to life on walls everywhere. Let’s dive in!

1. What’s your story with wallpapers? What led you to your own collection?
I’ve always been drawn to bold, expressive design, and wallpaper is the perfect canvas for that. My journey started with textiles and accessories, where I played with patterns and prints, but I always envisioned my designs on a larger scale – transforming spaces, not just wardrobes. This collection is a natural evolution of my creative world, bringing my signature aesthetic into interiors in a way that feels immersive and dynamic.
2. Your wallpaper designs feel bold, unexpected, and full of movement. What’s the story behind your Pop Nouveau collection?
Pop Nouveau is all about energy, playfulness, and a fresh take on modern maximalism. I wanted to merge the bold, graphic appeal of Pop Art with the fluidity and organic movement found in Art Nouveau. The result? A collection that’s vibrant, expressive, and full of personality. These designs make a statement, yet they also have an elegance that makes them versatile and livable.

3. Many people struggle with choosing the right wallpaper. What’s your best advice for someone who loves a bold pattern but isn’t sure how to use it?
Start with a small space! A powder room, a statement wall, or even the back of bookshelves can be a great way to introduce bold wallpaper without overwhelming a space. Also, balance is key – if you go big with pattern, keep the surrounding decor simple so the wallpaper can shine. And most importantly, choose what you love! If a pattern speaks to you, you’ll find the perfect place for it.
4. Your color choices are striking but also very livable. How do you approach color in your designs?
Color is pure emotion to me. I love pairing unexpected hues – contrasting warm and cool tones, playing with deep, moody shades alongside bright pops. I always consider how a color will feel in a space, ensuring that even the boldest combinations remain inviting and harmonious. It’s about creating energy and joy, but in a way that feels timeless.

5. Wallpaper has made a huge comeback in interiors. What do you think makes it such a powerful design choice today?
Wallpaper has the ability to completely transform a space – it’s an instant mood-setter. In today’s world, where people crave personality and uniqueness in their homes, wallpaper allows them to express themselves in a way that paint simply can’t. It brings depth, texture, and a sense of artistry, turning walls into conversation pieces.
6. If you could design a dream wallpaper for any place – real or imaginary – where would it be, and what would it look like?
I’d love to design a wallpaper for a boutique hotel in Paris – something that captures the city’s romance but with a playful, modern twist. Imagine oversized florals mixed with graphic line work, a mix of blush pinks, deep blues, and metallic gold accents. A space that feels both classic and unexpected, much like the city itself.
7. If the Chic Clique wallpaper design had a personality, how would you describe it?
Chic Clique is the life of the party – the one who walks into a room and instantly draws everyone in. She’s stylish, confident, and effortlessly cool, blending sophistication with a sense of fun. She’s that friend who pushes you to wear the bold outfit and take the spontaneous trip – always inspiring, never predictable.

8. Lastly – which is your favorite design and why?
That’s like choosing a favorite child! But if I had to pick, I would say Portrait Parade because it perfectly encapsulates what I love – movement, color, and an element of surprise. It’s a design that makes me smile every time I see it, and I know it will do the same for anyone who welcomes it into their home.
