How to Measure Your Wall for Custom-Fit Wallpaper Panels

How to Measure Your Wall for Custom-Fit Wallpaper Panels

Ordering custom-fit wallpaper online is easy once you have the correct wall measurements. Here at Baubauwall wallpapers, repeat pattern, photo wallpaper and mural wallpaper panels are printed to fit your exact wall dimensions. And, measuring wall for wallpapering is easier than you would imagine! A few careful measurements will help the finished design sit neatly from edge to edge.

Measure the full width and height

Use a laser ot metal tape measure and record the wall’s total width and height in centimetres or inches. Measure the complete wall, including areas behind furniture, radiators, windows or doors.

Walls are rarely perfectly straight, so take measurements in several places:

  • Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom.
  • Measure the height on the left, in the centre and on the right.
  • Use the largest width and height when placing your order.

For example, when your wall height varies between 248 cm (97,6 inches) and 250 cm, enter 250 cm (98,4 inches)

Add a small installation margin

A little extra wallpaper makes installation easier, especially when ceilings, floors or corners are uneven. Add approximately 5 cm / 1,97 inches to both the total width and height unless your wallpaper supplier gives different instructions. The excess can be trimmed after the panels have been installed.

Do not subtract windows or doors

Measure the entire wall as one rectangle. Avoid removing the dimensions of windows, doors or built-in furniture from your calculation. The wallpaper is printed in full panels, and openings are trimmed during installation. This also keeps the mural design correctly aligned.

Measuring sloped or irregular walls

For a wall with a sloped ceiling, measure the widest point and the greatest height. Order wallpaper for the full rectangular area surrounding the slope, then trim the panels to shape during installation.

The same method works for staircases, alcoves and walls with other unusual angles. A simple sketch with all measurements can be useful when discussing a more complicated wall with the supplier.

Check everything twice

Before submitting your custom wallpaper order, measure the wall again and compare the results. Write down the dimensions immediately so that width and height are not accidentally reversed.

Accurate measurements allow your custom-fit wallpaper panels to arrive in the correct size, ready to install in order across the wall. A few extra minutes with the tape measure can save time, unnecessary trimming and costly reprints later.
